As a yoga therapist, my goal is to guide you through techniques from the yoga tradition that empower you to meet your goals. This might include breath, poses, meditation techniques, and guided relaxation. A typical session has some combination of techniques custom-designed to build your capacity for healing that is innate but sometimes difficult to access.
A growing body of research on yoga has shown that it has the potential to improve quality of life for those suffering from many common mental health conditions including, but not limited to, PTSD, anxiety, depression and addiction. My work is grounded in the panchamaya kosha model derived from the diverse Indian lineages of yoga and paired with research-based evidence on physiology, neuroscience and our biological, psychological, social and spiritual capacities for change.
I believe deeply in the power that yoga has to address mental health challenges both from my personal experience and my professional experience of over 12 years teaching yoga to individuals and groups. You do not need to be fit, flexible, calm or wearing spandex to experience the benefits of yoga therapy. In fact, you do not need to be anything more than just exactly what you are at this moment, no matter how messy that may feel, look or be.
