There are many ways to approach our feelings, challenges, changes, worries, losses, hopes, and dreams. Therapy is a ritual devoted to making space for a deepening connection to the self. It is your time. It is an immense privilege to be a therapist– to explore alongside you, in the safety of our therapeutic relationship and the container of our sessions, how to live our lives more soulfully – with more understanding, strength, tenderness, and tolerance.
What we do in therapy is care for the soul. We attend to that dimension of our lives that makes meaning, experiences, feels, remembers, and that is both observable and unknown. We want to feel good, but tending the soul does not mean immediately relieving it of suffering or “fixing” the problem. Instead, we honor our symptoms and ailments as voices from within. With curiosity and courage, we might hear what those voices are trying to tell us. When heard and acknowledged, they might not vie so disruptively for our attention. As we continue to recognize our symptoms for what they are, we befriend our soul.
I have clinical experience sitting with adults, adolescents, and children navigating challenging emotions, issues related to self-esteem and self-discovery, behavioral symptoms like hyperactivity and attention deficit, and myriad life changes. Regardless of age, I like to use expressive arts in the therapy room when appropriate. While pathologies are based on patterns of symptoms, I believe each individual is uniquely affected by their struggles– our approach to healing will be trauma-informed and guided by our relationship and your needs.
